Six Ways to Earn Income as an AMSOIL Independent Dealer

​One of the best parts of being an AMSOIL Independent Dealer is that AMSOIL provides you with the freedom to build your business in a way that suites you best.  You can build your business though any of the following methods (or a combination):
​
  • Retail Sales (buy at wholesale and sell at retail to the end user)
  • Online Sales (take telephone orders, earn affiliate commissions)
  • Catalogue Sales (customers place orders through you or directly through AMSOIL)
  • Commercial Account Sales (set up commercial businesses as wholesale accounts.  They use AMSOIL in their equipment)
  • Retail Account Sales (establish re-seller accounts such as hardware stores, auto parts stores, installers etc)
  • Preferred Customer Sales (register individuals as Preferred Customers and earn a commission on their purchases)
  • Build a Sales Team (introduce the AMSOIL business to other people, earn commissions on their sales)
Let's take a closer look at each category

Retail Sales
This is where almost all AMSOIL Independent Dealers start.  It's the easiest way to get started and also provides the fastest track to earning immediate profits and commissions.

When you sell AMSOIL products directly to the end user, this is a Retail Sale.  You will buy the products from AMSOIL at wholesale and sell them at retail.  An example of a retail sale would be, your customer wants to do an oil change in his 2009 Dodge Ram 3500 with a 6.7L Diesel.  You sell him a case of oil and an oil filter.  Your wholesale cost on this product is approximately $143.00 and you sell it to your customer for $192.55.  Your profit on this sale is $49.55.

You will also earn approximately 73 Commission Credits on this order that will pay you an additional 2% to 25% ($1.46 - $18.25) depending upon your level of qualification

So, on this one retail sale, you could earn as much as $67.80

This is where most Independent Dealers start their AMSOIL business but to earn much more income, it's best not to stop here.

Online Sales
If you have just a little bit of experience with building websites (or the willingness to learn) online sales can help you build all categories of you AMSOIL business.  Let's start with what you can NOT do to promote your AMSOIL business online:
  • You may not list AMSOIL products for sale on sites such as eBay and Amazon
  • You may not create an online store with prices and shopping cart
What you can do:
  • You can blog about AMSOIL products and suggest people contact you to order
  • You can promote your business locally and generate local sales
  • You can generate sales leads anywhere in North America and drop ship the products directly to your customers
  • You can generate affiliate commissions by sending traffic to AMSOIL.com
  • You can earn Retail/Catalogue profits by promoting AMSOIL products and asking people to contact AMSOIL directly to place their order.  You will instruct your customers to give your dealer/referral number when they order
  • You can promote the business opportunity and build a sales team
  • Much more...

Catalogue Sales
Catalogue sales are very similar to Retail Sales.  You can generate catalogue sales by physically handing out your catalogue to potential customers or showing them how to request a free catalogue online.  That customer can then place a product order by contacting you directly or by contacting AMSOIL and giving your dealer/referral number.  Just like a Retail Sale, you will earn the different between wholesale cost and the retail selling price + the commission credits.

Another way to generate Catalogue Sales is through your online marketing efforts.  If your website, blog, social media efforts help somebody to phone AMSOIL to place an order and that person give your referral number, you will earn the profit and commission credits.

A third way to earn Catalogue Sales is as an affiliate commission (Google "what is affiliate marketing" to learn more about this).  If your online marketing efforts lead somebody to make a purchase at www.amsoil.com, you will earn the same profit and commission credits as you would if that person contact you directly to place the order.  As an AMSOIL Dealer, you will be provided with affiliate links that you can use to help ensure you are credited with the sale.

Commercial Account Sales
One of the most profitable avenues for earning large commissions with AMSOIL is through Commercial Account Sales.  By introducing commercial businesses such as small trucking companies, landscapers, equipment operators etc. to AMSOIL products and helping them to save money by using our products in their business, you will earn profits and commission credits on their purchases.  

Commercial Accounts tend to be very loyal and place large recurring orders.  Some of the top earners in AMSOIL focus on Commercial Account Sales.

Retail Account Sales
AMSOIL refers to Retail Accounts as ROTS or Retail on the Shelf accounts.  By helping retails stores and shops such as hardware stores, auto parts stores, powersports equipment dealers etc. purchase AMSOIL products for resale from their store, you will earn profits and commission credits on everything they buy.  Like Commercial Accounts, by establishing Retail Accounts, you can earn a substantial, long-term, recurring stream of income.

Preferred Customer Sales
A Preferred Customer is an end user that buys AMSOIL products at Dealer Cost for their own use - not for resale.  You, as a dealer, do not earn the retail profit (different between wholesale and retail) but you do earn the commission credits.  At first glance, this may appear to be a negative situation but it is not.  By helping your Retail Sales customers become Preferred Customers, they will save money on their purchases and you will be guaranteed commissions for as long as they remain Preferred Customers and continue to purchase our products.  This is a true win-win situation for you as an Independent AMSOIL Dealer and for your customer that likes to use AMSOIL products in his or her own vehicles and equipment.

Building a Sales Team
By introducing the AMSOIL business to other people and helping them to find success, you will earn commission credits on their sales.  If you enjoy helping others and would like to build long-term, residual income building a sales team may be an area of your business to develop.

Bonuses and Additional Sources of Income
In the Retail Sales section, I mentioned that you do not want to stop with Retail Sales.  In addition to the substantial commission you can earn by establishing Preferred Customers, Commercial Accounts, Retail on the Shelf Accounts and Building a Sales Team, you will also qualify for the following bonuses that could earn you $100's of dollars in additional income each month.

Qualification Bonus - Earn $10 for every qualified Dealer, Preferred Customer or Account you register.  One qualified Customer = $10  Five qualified customers = $50,  Ten qualified customers = $100 etc.

A qualified customer is a new Independent Dealer, Preferred Customer, Commercial Account or Retail on the Shelf Account that places a minimum order.

Duplication Bonus - Earn $5 for every qualified Dealer, Preferred Customer or account the Dealers in your sales group sponsor. When you build a sales team and help them register new accounts, your team member will earn the qualification bonus and you will earn the duplication bonus.  Remember, this bonus is above and beyond the commissions you will earn on your team's sales.

Retention Bonus - Earn $5 when the Dealers or Preferred Customers in your group renew the first time and re-qualify.  If you register a new Dealer or Preferred Customer and they make a qualifying purchase (50 commission credits), you will have earned a $10 Qualification Bonus.  If that Dealer or Preferred Customer renews their account when it expires and they make another qualifying purchase, you will earn an additional $5 Retention Bonus.
Hopefully by reading through this post, you've opened your mind to some of the different ways to build your AMSOIL business. Remember, Retail Sales are a great way to get your start and to earn immediate profits and commissions.  If, however, you'd like to grow your business and income to higher levels, start to look for opportunities to register Preferred Customers, Commercial Accounts, Retails on the Shelf Accounts and to Build Your Sales Team.  You may wish to also explore ways to promote your business online as this can help you generate sales and registrations in all of the other categories.

Why Should You Check Your Volume?

In AMSOIL, your achievement levels, income qualifications, and incentives are all dependent on the sales volume that you, your accounts and your downline dealers generate during each month.

As the end of each month approaches, it is CRUCIAL that you know how much volume you've achieved so far during the month. By checking your volume, you may find that you are close to a higher achievement level.  In some cases, placing a small or moderate sized order may bump you up into a higher income percentage for the month, or help you qualify for Direct Jobber or other higher levels of recognition.  This can potentially mean more money in your pocket, can earn you more recognition, and may help you earn other incentives.

All of the requirements for achievement levels are based on "Commission Credits." In general, each quart of oil is roughly equal to 5 Commission Credits.  To check the exact Commission Credits earned per product, you can view the g-3501 Dealer Profit List in your dealer zone.

Basic Requirements for Achievement Levels
AMSOIL Dealer Profit
If you're not yet at the Direct Jobber level, you'll want to watch for milestones of 50 PV and 100, 300, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 and 3000 GV.  You need to have at least 50 PV per month and 100 GV in order to receive a commission cheque from AMSOIL. Falling just short of one of these levels could mean you're leaving money on the table that could be in your pocket.

If you are close to one of the achievement levels, I highly recommend that you get in touch with your sponsor to discuss the situation.

How to Check Your Volume

The easiest way to check your volume is to log in to your dealer zone at www.amsoil.com
  • Once you are logged in, look toward the top right of your screen for a pie chart that says "reports"
  • Click on that pie chart
  • Look for the report called PV/GV
  • Click on the link for the current month and a report will open that shows you your status for the month to date
  • If you have any trouble, you can call the office at 1-800-777-7094

Definitions
Commission Credits - Sales volume is measured in Commission Credits.  Each product carries it's own commission credit amount.  A rough estimate is 5 commission credits per quart of oil and around 8 for a filter.  You can check the exact commission credits earned in the G-3501 Dealer Profit List
PV - Personal Volume - Every AMSOIL product has a commission credit value.  Personal commission credits are accumulated by your personal purchases, your Preferred Customer purchases, your retail catalog sales and purchases made by your commercial and retail accounts. At the end of each month, your commissions are calculated and AMSOIL sends you a cheque based on the AMSOIL Commission Credit Schedule.  A minimum of 100 monthly commission credits is required to receive a personal commission cheque
GV - Group Volume - By sponsoring new Dealers, you build your personal group. The commission value of your group's purchases are added to yours, increasing the percentage of your commission and giving you a bigger commission cheque. You must have a minimum of 50 personal commission credits to earn a commission from your personal group each month.

Ordering Deadlines
If you're going to place an order to reach a higher achievement level, your order must be received, paid for, and processed by AMSOIL before 5:00pm Central Time on the last Friday of the month. If you need to call in your orders, be aware that AMSOIL phone lines are only open 7:00am to 7:00pm Central Time on weekdays

How Earnings Increase at Higher Achievement Levels
As your Group Points reach 100,300,500,1000,1500,2000,2500,3000 etc. you'll earn more income on your Personal Volume (PV) Plus, you'll earn more income on the volume generated by your downline dealers.

What about Downline Dealers?
If you are actively involved in coaching dealers in your downline, you will want to check how many Commission Credits they've achieved during the month, so you can remind them if they are close to a level that could give them more income or recognition.  In communicating with them, however, be absolutely sure to make it clear that you are just informing them so they can optionally increase their Commission Credits to reach an achievement level, if it makes sense for them—you never want a Dealer to feel that you are pressuring them to do more.

Need a Volume Boost To Maximize Your Commission / Rebate?

Monitoring your Commission Credits toward the end of each month is important if you want to receive as much commission from AMSOIL as possible.  If you find that you are a little short of reaching the next level on the commission schedule, here are a few ideas to give you that last minute boost:

  1. Place an AMSOIL order for yourself.  If you are planning an oil change on one of your own vehicles soon, consider ordering your oil and filter now.  Don't forget about air filters, fuel additives and additional items such as MP and gun oil.
  2. Do you stock inventory?  If so, consider replenishing some of your top sellers.
  3. Pick up that phone and start calling your existing ROTS and Commercial accounts.  Ask them if there is anything they need help ordering and be sure to have a new item or two in mind that you can suggest.  MP is a great add-on for every account.
  4. Call and/or email all of your existing customers that are due for an order.  Depending upon how you run your business, you can let them know that you are placing an inventory order and ask if they'll need anything in the coming month, or if you ship direct to your customers, simply ask if they are ready for another round of oil and filters.
  5. Post on social media.  If you like to use social media, a great post would be "Hi everyone, I'm placing my monthly AMSOIL inventory order tonight.  If anyone is planning to do an oil change this month, please give me a call and I'll bring in some products for you"
  6. Follow up with prospects.  Did you get any calls during the month from potential customers that did not place an order? Follow up with them to see if they are ready to buy now.
  7. Consider placing an order of some Altrum or Aggrand products for your own use.  These two product lines are often forgotten but shouldn't be as they are very high quality and they count toward your CC's.  As an AMSOIL Dealer, you also get everything at wholesale from these two divisions and can use your AMSOIL log-in and password.  I personally like the Altrum Chocolate Meal Replacement.  If you have a lawn, fruit trees or vegetable garden, you'll definitely want to take a look at Aggrand.

I received an email from Evan in Welland, Ontario a while back.  Evan was wondering where he could purchase some AMSOIL stickers.

How to Maintain Your T-1 Certification

As you know, getting your T-1 Certification is a very important first step in becoming a successful AMSOIL Dealer.

Maintaining your T-1 Certification by meeting the requirements below grants you access to all of the benefits afforded to T-1 Dealers including access to AMSOIL assigned customers, co-op support and a listing on the AMSOIL Dealer Locator.  In addition to the offers I make available exclusively to the T-1 Dealers on our team.

To maintain your eligibility, you must:
  • Log in to the Dealer Zone at least once weekly - I suggest making this a daily habit
  • Have Internet access and an active email account
  • Earn a minimum of $10 in commissions in the last six months and have at least one new, personally sponsored customer (Dealer, Preferred Customer, Commercial Account or Retail on the Shelf Account)
OR 
  • Earn a minimum of $10 in commissions in the last six months and have at least five current, personally sponsored customers (active Dealer, Preferred Customer, Commercial Account, Retail on the Shelf Account)

If you make even the smallest effort toward building your business, all of these requirements should be very easily achieved.

October 2016 Income Report

October went by quickly this year.  My day job slowed down quite a bit so I was able to spend more time than usual on my AMSOIL business.  I even took some time to start a new venture in October that has been fun.  Only time will tell if this new venture was a wise decision or just a distraction but sometimes I can't help myself.

My October personal CC's of 4148 were pretty good.  I'll talk later in this post about what I did to strengthen my personal sales/CC's.  The team's GV was also pretty good at 7226.  My commission cheque for October was $2125 USD.  This is down just a few dollars from September but up 45% from October 2015's $1464.

The Canadian dollar remains low so the $2125 USD converted to roughly $2875 CDN.  I'm fairly satisfied with my results in October but need to continue to work on improving my skills and then helping everyone on my team by sharing what I have learned.

If my calculation is correct, my growth bonus for 2016 is already at approximately $1800 USD
Expenses
My expenses were pretty typical in October and included:
  • Web hosting $12 USD
  • Email system $17 USD
  • AMSOIL DJ Admin Service $20 USD
  • Google Adwords $8 USD
  • Training $20 USD
Total Expenses:  $77 USD

Next month, I'll be reducing my web hosting and email system expenses slightly as my new venture/business will be sharing those expenses.

Key Successes
I continued to dig into some new training information and created a follow up system for my local sales that is working very well.  I'll be sharing this system with everyone soon.  The new system has already led to one customer referral and several other happy customers.

I also put into writing a system I call "win the day".  I've implemented that system and it led to me making 11 sales that I likely would not have made otherwise.  Those 11 sales, should grow into many more as I funnel those folks through my follow up system.

​What I'll be Working On Next
November's focus will be on perfecting my follow-up system and "win the day" formula and then sticking to it.  It's very easy and is working well.  Once I get it mastered, I'll share it with everyone on the team.
